CamelBak was created by Michael Edison in 1989 for a race called “HotterN’ Hell 100”. He was an emergency medical technician by trade that decided to fill an IV bag with water and slip it into a white tube sock and then stuff the contraption into the back of his bike jersey. After he throws the thin hose over his shoulder and clamps it with a clothespin he basically created hands-free hydration. And Eidson is able to drink as he pedals without having to fiddle with a water bottles.
