Children in the state of Texas who do not have health insurance may qualify for CHIP or Children’s Medicaid. These plans offer a variety of benefits such as:

  • hospital care and services
  • prescription drugs and vaccines
  • medical supplies, X-rays, and lab tests
  • treatment of special health needs
  • treatment of pre-existing conditions
  • dentist visits, cleanings and fillings
  • eye exams and glasses
  • much more!

Only 1 application is needed and the State of Texas will review it and approve it if you qualify. NOTE: please visit the site directly to verify the details and obtain more information. We have provided a quick “how to” activation guide below for you to activate an application for CHIP online.

what you need:

  • internet access
  • social security number or proof that you have applied for one
  • be a US citizen or have a front and back copy of your Resident Card with an arrival/departure form or any other U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services paperwork
  • proof of income or self-employment
  • any child support stubs or receipts if applicable
  • proof of nay child support you pay, child care or associated cost, or alimony
  • any social security, pension benefits or supplementary security income stubs or letters if applicable
  • a Veterans’ benefits, unemployment or workers’ compensation letter or pay stub if applicable
  • other personal information

what to do:

  • visit: www.chipmedicaid.org
  • click on any “Apply Now” or “Apply Online” buttons
  • in the section titled “Apply for Benefits” click on the “You need to login” link OR click on the “Apply for Benefits” link at the top of the page
  • click on the “Set up account” button, click the OK button
  • click on the “No” radio button only if no in your family currently has Medicaid or CHIP
  • click on the “Save and go to next page” button
  • scroll down to the “Health-card benefits (Medicaid and CHIP)” section and check off the box that best fits to you
  • scroll down and then click on the “Save and go to next page” button
  • proceed to provide all other required information until you reach the results page and are provided with a button “Set up an account on your YourTexasBenefits.com” button to click on to go the application
  • proceed to set up your account and when you are done you will then need to fill out the application and submit it online
  • wait up to 45 days for approval or keep checking online for a current status of your application
