Kitestring is a free personal safety service that can be used when you need someone to check in on you. No button to hold down or shaking of your phone, just a simple reply to a text. Some use it when walking alone, or riding a bike, meeting a stranger or simply being in any other potential unsafe situation. No app to download; if you can receive and send a text on your device, Kitestring will work for you.

The free version of Kitestring allows one emergency contact and 3 trips a month. You may set up a duress code which is a secret code Your (optional) duress code is a secret code that you use to tell Kitestring that you are in trouble. Kitestring will then pretend that you just checked in, but it will secretly alert all of your emergency contacts.

what you need:

  • internet access
  • personal information

what to do:

  • visit: https://www.kitestring.io/
  • type in your full name in the space provided
  • type in your contact number in the space provided (this will be the number that you wish you receive text messages to)
  • click on the “Sign Up” button
  • type in the verification code that was sent to you by Kitestring in the space provided
  • create and type in a password in the spaces provided
  • click on the “Sign Up” button
  • type in the name of your emergency contact in the space provided
  • type in their contact number or email address in the space provided
  • click on the ”Add Contact” button

NOTE: the monthly paid plan as of 2017 is $3 month to upgrade to the following:

  • unlimited trips
  • unlimited emergency contacts
  • access to the Perennial mode (Kistring will check on your every few minutes or hours)
